The Rest of Ireland

Our last day involved A LOT of walking. I think we walked about six miles.

This actually turned out to be the norm for us...we rarely used public transportation.

We started off our day with a walk to Kilmainham Gaol, the old prison where many of the Irish rebels were imprisoned and executed. It's a little off the beaten path but we thoroughly enjoyed it.

After that, we just walked all around the city. Such a great place to begin our trip!

 

This band below (Tumbling Bones) is from Maine. We listened to them for a few minutes and Rachel went up to buy their CD. We got to talk to them for a while and they were really great. Such talented guys.

We ended our day on the steps of the chapel right inside Trinity College. It was so quiet and peaceful...a great place to sit, talk, and journal for a bit.

Ireland...you were great. I will hopefully be back. Next stop: Edinburgh!!

Ireland Day Trip Part II

The first part of the day was spent at the family farm. The second part of the day was spent at the cliffs.

The Cliffs of Moher. Oh my word, y'all. I can't rave on them enough. If you ever have the opportunity to go...don't hesitate! Pictures don't even do it justice. Ugh I just want to go back.

And the best part was that the day was beautiful! The sun actually came out!

On the way back to Dublin, we got to stop at a castle. I'm in love with castles. All of them.

Ireland Day Trip Part I

This was by far our favorite day of the trip. Rach and I are both country girls at heart. Cities are great for a few days, but we really enjoyed spending time in nature. We were lucky enough to get opportunities like this in almost every city we visited.

Our day started bright and early with a bus ride to a family farm in Burren County. We pulled up in front of Granny's Cottage and were met by Cousin John. He, along with two other cousins, took us on a walk up their privately owned mountain (no big deal). Cows, farm land, lots of rocks, beautiful scenery...everything I imagined the Irish countryside would look like.

 This is their goat named Billy. They put him on the roof to trim the grass.

Tomorrow is part two of our trip...the Cliffs of Moher!!!
