Things that Make Me Uncomfortable

Welcome to Day 3 of blogging everyday! Y'all should link up with Jenni. This has been a lot of fun so far!
Today's topic kind of stumped me. I wasn't sure if I could think of anything. But I came up with five! Here it goes:

1. Feet. I can't stand for people to touch me with their feet. This sounds ridiculous but I will literally freak out if someone touches me. Even if they're wearing socks. If I'm sitting on the couch with someone, you better believe you'll hear me say, "Don't touch me with your feet." My own feet, on the other hand? Don't mind them at all.

2. Talking to people in bathrooms. I hate it when people try to have conversations while they're in a public bathroom. Awkward.

3. Wedgies. On anyone. Pretty sure that makes everyone uncomfortable.

4. Men who don't wear socks with shoes. Unless you're wearing boat shoes or sandals, you need socks! Just think about how sweaty your feet are getting inside those tennis shoes or dress shoes. Gross.

5. Talking with a mouth full of food. Maybe this is more of a pet peeve, but come on people. Chew your food, then talk! I don't want to see what you're eating.

What about you? Do any of the things I listed make you uncomfortable?

Abducted by Aliens

Most of you know I was student teaching this semester for an awesome first grade class. And I loved every.single.minute of it. Teaching is my passion and it brings me so much joy. I love helping students and seeing little light bulbs go off in their heads. It's such a rewarding job!

Student teaching gave me many opportunities to try new things. This was like my trial period so it was okay if some of my ideas failed. That's what this process is for! Thankfully, most of my ideas worked. One of my favorites was a writing activity. I mentioned a longgg time ago that I would share about it. And the day is finally here!

I was blessed to work with three other first grade student teachers. We were all very creative and loved doing things that were a little outside the norm. Sooo we came up with this fun idea. We made a video pretending we were abducted by an alien. In order to get us back, they had to write a letter persuading the alien to let us go. Boy were these letters funny!

Here's how it all went down:
We began our writing lesson just like normal. Just a minute after we started, the secretary came on the intercom and called the first grade student teachers to the office. As soon as we walked out of the room, our teachers played the video we made. Warning: It's a little loud when Aly first starts talking to watch out :)

Most of the students freaked out when they saw this video. "We have to get them back!" "Let's write the best letters we can!" Some of them knew it was a joke and tried to play cool. (Luckily these students didn't ruin it for those that actually believed the story.) I had one student start sobbing. He thought something was going to blow up when he heard the beeps at the beginning of the video. I felt so bad when I heard this!

Our teachers texted us throughout the next hour and told us how hard the students were working. After lunch, specials, and half of recess, we walked back outside to meet our classes. The alien (a student teacher from another grade) came outside with us in her costume. At once all of the students rushed over to us and would not let us go. It was so precious!

We were so glad we did this activity because the students enjoyed it. They worked so hard and we got some great letters in the process. It just goes to show how school can be fun for kids; it doesn't have to be the same ol' boring stuff. I will definitely be doing more things like this in the future.

And now...what you've all been waiting for...some letters! All of them were hysterical but these were my favorites. I put translations under each but if you want a challenge, you should try to read them yourself.

Dear alien, I want Ms. Burton back. Because she is a nice teacher. If you eat her, I will cut you in half. And I will make a sandwich of alien.

Dear Alien, If you give Ms. Burton back I will give you a 4th grade teacher. She is a good person. She teach us a lot of stuff. She is great. She is also sweet. She is my favorite.

Dear Alien, Please bring Ms. Burton. We will do whatever you want. Because without Ms. Burton we can't do Morning Meeting. We couldn't do fun things.

And my personal favorite:
Dear Alien, I want Ms. Burton back please. If you don't give Ms. Burton back I will eat you up. Please bring her or I will fart on your face. If you don't give Ms. Burton back I will whoop you in the face. I want Ms. Burton back.

250 Words

Jenni is hosting a link up to write everyday in May. At first, I wasn't going to participate because I'm leaving the country in the middle of the month. Which means I'm bound to miss some days.
But everyone else looked like they were having fun and I didn't want to be left out!
So here it goes: My life story in 250 words. Plus a few pictures.

************************************************

I was born on November 30, 1990 in Athens, GA. My parents met and fell in love at the University of Georgia. It was only fitting I begin my life in the best college town on the planet. I was an only child for all of 14 months before my brother (and best friend) entered this world. Two more brothers came after him. Only girl! Woohoo! I grew up in a smallish farm-type town in the same house where my dad was raised with my family living all around me. I grew up with awesome godly parents. My family is so incredibly important to me and I cannot imagine life without them.

My family is extremely musical. I play the piano (although not very well), violin, viola, guitar, and bass guitar. I also love to sing. I started playing violin in fourth grade and viola in sixth grade. I was even first chair in the county orchestra for two years. No one at college really knows about my musical talent. I am sometimes shy and extremely modest so these things don’t get mentioned very often.

recording studio days

In August of 2009, I moved to Athens and started my freshman year at the University of Georgia. I’ve been here ever since. Teaching is my passion. In 8 days, I will graduate with a degree in Early Childhood Education. In 15 days, I will be hopping on a plane to live in Europe until December. Can’t wait to see where this adventure takes me!

It's Gonna be May

That title has nothing to do with this post.
Other than the fact that it's the first day of May.
Spring at my house!

If you were to walk into my room right now, you'd see suitcases everywhere.
I currently have six suitcases open all over my floor.
My closet is almost empty.
I have boxes everywhere trying to pack things.

Packing up my life is tough.
Especially when I'm moving across the ocean for seven months.
Clothes are the worst part.
I want to take everything!
Trying to narrow down my clothes to fit into two bags is probably
one of the more difficult things I've done in a while.

But. It is all going to be worth it!
I leave in 15 days.
15 days, y'all!!
I can't believe it.

I'm starting to plan out my final meals.
The Cheesecake Factory being one of them.
And Chick-fil-A of course.
If you really knew me, you'd know I have a serious relationship with CFA.
I'm talking at least two or three times a week.
And that's on a slow week.

When I was in Italy, all I missed was CFA and PBJ sandwiches.
I was only there for three weeks.
I can't imagine what seven months will do for me.

Welllll this has turned into a random post.
To wrap up:
I'm leaving in 15 days.
My room is a mess.
I love Chick-fil-A.

Happy First Day of May!

Strangers on the Porch

I had a little scare early this morning.
I woke up a little before six to someone snoring.
This is weird because my bedroom is on the opposite side of the apartment from my roommates.
At first I thought I was making it up, but then I realized it was real.
I sat up and tried to figure out where it was coming from.

Our living room light was on so I originally thought someone was sleeping on our couch.
This is not unusual. One of my roommates is a college athlete.
She often has friends come from out of town and stay in our apartment.
We actually had an NBA player stay with us a few weekends ago.
But I digress.

I figured out it wasn't coming from our living room, but from outside.
My bedroom window looks out over our small porch.
I peeked through my blinds and saw some big black thing curled up against our porch door.
Based on what I thought was going on (friend sleeping over), I assumed it was their dog.
Problem solved.

Fast forward to this morning when all of us were awake.
I checked with my roommate to see who came over and what kind of dog they had.
Only to find out that no one came over. Which means there was no dog.
Cue creepy music.

Both of my roommates suggested I was dreaming.
But I was definitely awake!
I even got up, went to the bathroom, and checked out the window again.

So to wrap up, there was some thing or some person sleeping on our porch last night.
Right beside my window.
Close enough for me to hear them snoring/breathing heavily.
Weird!

We're hoping that it was just a drunk person.
We're on the ground floor so they could have climbed over our porch railing.
Maybe thinking they were locked out of their apartment?
Maybe at the wrong place?
Who knows?!
The good news is nothing happened.
All I know is...they better not come back tonight!

Back to Life...Back to Reality

Well I did it.
I read ALL of the blogs I missed over the past few weeks.

Let me just tell you...it was a lot.
Almost 500.
I finished student teaching on Friday
{which essentially means I'm done with college}
so I had to have something to do!

It was a nice little escape for the past few days.
Catching up on posts in my free time.
Of which I have a lot now :)

So now it's back to the real world.
I can't stay in blog world forever!
Although it's tempting.
Who needs to work and clean and be productive, right?

Anyways.
I'm working on some catch-up posts.
I'm missing my sweet first graders.
But definitely not the early wake-up call.
It's good to be back!

PS Spring/Summer has arrived in Georgia! Nothing like a trip to the botanical gardens
to get me in a good mood.

One Week Left!

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Wow. Time is moving so fast.
I only have ONE WEEK left of student teaching!
One week!! So crazy.

I've been slowly giving responsibilities back to my teacher.
Now I'm pretty much left with nothing.
I passed both of my observations this semester with flying colors.
My supervisor had nothing but good things to say!
Praise the Lord.

It's so strange to go from teaching everything to teaching nothing.
But it's also really freeing.
I haven't had this much free time all semester!
I actually read a book this week.
Like a real chapter book.
Hunger Games if you're curious.
By the way...totally forgot how that book just sucks you in until you're finished.
So good.

This last week will be spent just enjoying my kiddos and trying to have as much fun as possible.
After next Friday, I'll be back to post about some of the fun stuff we did.

Hope y'all are enjoying your weekend so far!
