Proud Sister Moment

I just need to take a second a brag on my little brother. Callaway has officially been moved to the varsity football team. He has been playing JV and some varsity, but as of this week, no more JV!!
Which means Zeb and I don't have to drive home on Thursdays!
It was getting a little tiresome going home both Thursday and Friday nights to watch him play. So now it's just Fridays!

If you want to see a shot of him in action, click here. And here.

I love high school football. Really I love all football.
High school football just has a special place in my heart. I think it has something to do with the feel of a whole town rallying behind a team. There's just something so great about that.

It wouldn't surprise you then to know that Friday Night Lights is one of my favorite shows. If you haven't seen it, go to Netflix immediately and start watching. Tim Riggins is the man.

But I digress. Congrats, Cal! I'm so proud of you. Can't wait to watch you finish the season! Love you, bud!

Mental Health Days

I need a mental health day, y'all. Real bad.
I have been going non-stop for what feels like years.
This is what I wish would happen:

via

Do you ever take mental health days? I have grown up with this idea. My mom used to let us skip school every once in a while when we were kids. Once a month or so, she would let us stay home. We would play games all day, go outside, have a picnic, pick apples or grapes, or run errands with her. Those days were the best.

 I was talking with my small group last week about how tired I felt. I told them I was going to take a mental health day soon and they had no idea what I was talking about! They thought I was crazy. I didn't think it was that foreign of a concept.

In the off-chance that you haven't ever taken one, I highly recommend it. It's such a great chance to step outside your normal routine and relax. I am not able to take them but once a semester because of the education school's rules. But the day I take off? So glorious.

What do you do to step back and relax? I'd love to hear suggestions that don't involve taking a whole day off.

Hope you all are having a stress-free week...because those are the best kind!

I'm alive!

Well I did it. I survived my first day as a substitute teacher!

There were definitely some bumps. Like when my trouble-maker decided to throw a crate of library books. Or when said trouble-maker disappeared for 15 minutes.
{I'm convinced she was trying to give me a heart attack.}

But other than that, I'd say it was a pretty good day.

Thank y'all so much for the sweet comments, tweets, and emails yesterday. And for those of you who prayed, oh my word I could feel it. So thanks!

At the end of the day, I was still alive and smiling. Really that's all that matters. It just confirmed that I'm in the right profession. Love it when that happens.

Hope y'all are having a wonderful week so far!

Am I Old Enough For This?!

Y'all. I have some big news. As of last Friday, I am officially trained to be a substitute teacher! It's crazy to think I am old enough to be in charge of a class.

I also found out last Tuesday that I will be subbing for my fourth grade class. Tomorrow. All by myself. Alone. With 20 kids.

Can you tell I'm a little nervous???
{honestly I'm freaking out inside}

The class that I'm placed in is one of the worst classes I've ever been in, behaviorally speaking. They never quit talking, even during tests. I have a few students who will refuse to do work, even going so far as to throw their books.

I am hoping that my students will be so well-behaved considering I am a new face. They see me every Thursday and Friday, but I have yet to teach an entire lesson. So far, I have just been walking around during activities and helping small groups with work. Being in charge of the class for the entire day will be a new experience for them.

I'll let y'all know how it goes. Prayers would be greatly appreciated!

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

{i hope y'all sang that title as you read it}

Anyways...You may notice a little change over here on this little ol' blog.
Thanks to the wonderful Miss Annie from what she saw, I got a bloggie facelift!
She did such an amazing job. This was my first real blog design so I was a little nervous. But she was so great to work with and did everything I wanted.
It was like she's known me for so long; the design incorporated everything that I like.
If you're in need of a new look, definitely check her out. Her prices are great and she is so easy to work with. She's the best!

Thanks, Annie!

Cruise

Have y'all heard of the band Florida Georgia Line?
You should check them out.
Specifically their song Cruise. The chorus is really catchy.

Oh look! I put it on here for you!
You're welcome.

Tyler, the one with long hair, actually grew up going to my church and I used to babysit his sister.
Crazy to think that a kid who used to lead worship for youth is now a recorded country singer. Way to go, Tyler!

Never Forget

It's hard to believe it has been 11 years. In some ways it seems like it was just yesterday that I was in my fifth grade class, watching the t.v. with horror as the Twin Towers fell. Our administration told teachers not to let us see the news, but my teacher felt it was important. I'm so glad she let us watch history happening. That day changed America forever. I'll never forget how everyone bonded together after that tragedy.

Today, I'm praying for those families affected by that day. I'm praying for our country that we'll be united and that God will continue to bless us. And I'm extremely grateful for those who fight for our freedom everyday.

Where were you on September 11, 2001?
